Eligibility Criteria
Physical Sciences
- Applications are invited from candidates having Masters degree with at least 60% aggregate marks in any field of Physical Sciences for the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program. Final year post-graduate students who are yet to obtain their degree may also apply, however, they must complete the MSc/MS degree at the time of admission with the requisite 60% aggregate marks.
Biological Sciences
- Masters’ (or B.E., B.Tech., M.Tech., MBBS) degree holders or equivalent (with minimum 60 % marks) in any branch of science including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biological Sciences, Ecology and Environmental Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering or equivalent. For applicants from SC, ST or PwD category: Applicants must have a minimum of 55 % marks in aggregate (overall percentage and not just in the majoring subject) or an equivalent CGPA. Students whose final results in Master’s or equivalent are yet to be declared can also apply. However, if selected, the offer for these students will be provisional, subject to their fulfilling the above criteria at the time of admission
Chemical Sciences
- M.Sc. examination with minimum 55% marks in any field of Chemistry or Physics or Mathematics. In addition, the candidates must have valid GATE Score Card, CSIR/UGC-NET LS or other Equivalent National Eligibility Exam. OR Besides satisfying minimal eligibility criteria, the candidates must have CSIR/UGC-NET JRF, INSPIRE fellowship or other Equivalent Fellowships.
Earth Sciences
MSc./MS/M.Sc. Tech/M. Tech (with minimum of 55% marks) in:
- 1) Geology/Applied Geology/Geophysics /Earth Sciences/Marine geology/Environmental Sciences/Environmental Studies/Atmospheric Science or any other branch of Geological sciences. Or
- 2) Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/Biological Sciences/Computational Seismology/interested to pursue research with the DES faculty member in the matching specialization. Final year post-graduate students who are yet to obtain their degree may also apply; however, they must have completed their degree at the time of admission.
Mathematics and Statistics
- A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Mathematics/Statistics with a minimum of 55% marks or CGPA/CPI of 6.5 on a 10- point scale.

Result of Written test (i.e List of selected candidates for Interview under Group A) will be published or announced around 7 P.M on 26th May on DMS Website(https://math.iiserkol.ac.in/), IISER Kolkata Website, DMS notice board and notice board near exam hall for written test. Interviews of selected candidates under Group A will be conducted on 27 May 10 A.M. Reporting time for the Interview is 9.30 AM. - Mathematics and Statistics ( List Selected Applicants under Group B Directly for offline Interview):Click Here
Note that for Group B there is no written test. Interviews will be conducted on: 25th May (Reporting time 1.30P.M, Interview will start at 2 P.M) and 26th May. (Morning session Reporting time 9 A.M, Interview will start at 9.30 A.M and Afternoon Session Reporting time 2P.M, Interview will start at 2.30P.M). Please see the Date and Time of the interview in the above list carefully. The candidates will be allowed to appear at the interview only after proper verification of documents.
