Eligibility Criteria for NSKTU Tirupati PhD Admission 2024
- Candidates who have completed:
- A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree/Acharya/M.A.(Sanskrit)/ Shiksha Acharya (M.Ed. in Sanskrit) in the relevant subject program after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme (or) A 2-year/4-semester master’s degree/Acharya/M.A.(Sanskrit)/ Shiksha Acharya (M.Ed .in Sanskrit) programme after a 3-year/6- semester bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed (or) Any equivalent post-graduate degree/title recognized by the National Sanskrit University, Tirupati. (or) equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
- Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/ 8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed.
- Those eligible candidates who have passed JRF/NET/SLET/ SET/ UGC Fellowship Awardees/Visistacharya (M.Phil) in the concerned Shastra and Education are exempted from the Vidyavaridhi Entrance Test. But they must apply in the prescribed format by paying the prescribed fee.
- Those who qualify UGC JRF/NET in 25 CODE are eligible to get admission only in Sahitya, Puranetihasa, and Dharmashastra and in Research & Publications without entrance test and subject to the fulfilling of all other eligibility criteria as per the regulations and the outcome of interview performance and over-all Rank. (AND)
- Those who qualify UGC JRF/NET in 73 CODE are eligible to get admission only in that particular Shastra/Research & Publications, subject to the fulfilling of all other eligibility criteria as per the regulations and the outcome of interview performance and over-all Rank. Further, the JRF/NET qualified candidates in 73 CODE (Traditional Sastras)/Education (09) Code should have possessed 16 credits/ obtained equivalent marks in each semester or should have possessed 32 credits/obtained equivalent marks per year in annual pattern in that particular Shastra/Education/Research & Publications in which the candidate has applied for the Vidyavaridhi (Ph.D) Admission.
- A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/ Differently-abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
- Foreign candidates who have passed Acharya/M.A. [Sanskrit/equivalent degree (Sanskrit)]/Shiksha Acharya (M.Ed in Sanskrit) with 55% marks in the aggregate from any University outside India along with PG Degree in Education with 55% of marks can also apply for the VVET 2023-24 through the Ministry of External Affairs & Ministry of Education, Govt. of India. Foreign Nationals including NRIs must produce a valid Research Visa at the time of seeking admission into Vidyavaridhi (Ph.D.) programme. The Foreign/ NRI scholars should also go through all the process of admission procedure from submission of application for entrance test and to follow admission procedure.
- Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution (accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions), equivalent to M.Phil Degree in the concerned shastra of an Indian Institution, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme.

Selection Process
- Admission into Vidyavaridhi Programme will be through written entrance test Called Vidyavaridhi Entrance Test (VVET 2023).
- The following categories of candidates shall be exempted from appearing the Vidyavaridhi (Ph.D) Entrance Test in Traditional Shastras & Education-(VVET- 2023):
- Candidates who qualified in UGC-CSIR JRF / NET / SLET
- Visistacharya (M.Phil) in Sanskrit scholars.
- Such candidates are also required to submit their application & enroll themselves for the programme along with all other candidates.
- Those JRF candidates who wish to apply under Non-JRF vacancy should apply separately. One single application for JRF & Non-JRF vacancies will not be counted and this may lead to cancellation of application form.
- The JRF/NET qualified candidates with Code 25 are eligible for Sahitya, Puranetihasa, Dharmasastra & Research and Publications. The candidates if interested to apply for more than one subject, should apply separately for all the selected subject(s).
- The JRF/NET qualified candidates with Code 73 are eligible for concerned shastra in which qualified JRF/NET and for Research and Publications only. The candidates if interested to apply for more than one subject should apply separately for both the subjects.
- The selection of candidates based on the Vidyavaridhi Entrance test (VVET) conducted by the University, a weightage of 70 % for the entrance test and 30% for the performance in the Department interview/viva- voce shall be given.
- For the candidates based on the exemption from writing the Entrance test due to possession of JRF/NET/M.Phil/National Fellowship by the UGC or any other equivalent, a weightage of 70% on Acharya/PG marks and 30% for the performance in the interview/viva-voce shall be given.
- Since the JRF/NET/M.Phil or any other equivalent qualified candidates, get the exemption from writing the entrance exam, No Additional Marks will be added for possessing the JRF/ NET/ M.Phil/National Fellowship or any other equivalent from the UGC in the Non-JRF admission interview.
- National Fellowship for SC/ST/OBC/PWD/SJSGC or any other equivalent fellowship awardees by the UGC will not be admitted under JRF Admission Notification.
NSKTU Tirupati PhD Entrance Test (VVET) Details
The duration of the exam shall be 120 MINUTES (TWO HOURS).
Candidates who have secured 50% marks in the entrance test to become eligible for the interview. (b) A relaxation of 5% marks(from 50% to 45%) will be allowed in the entrance examination for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/ Differently-abled category/ Economically weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
The pattern of the Vidyavaridhi (Ph.D) Entrance Test (VVET-2023) for Traditional Shastras and Education is outlined below. All questions will be in multiple-choice format, and the question paper will consist of two (2) sections.
